Pekkori is the village mayor of Harahettania, the Land of Poverty, situated on Namakura Island in Paradise. He directed the ritual in which he and his people "summoned" Brook, though they were trying to summon the devil.

Appearance

Pekkori is a middle-aged man who is always seen wearing sunglasses, even when he is inside or when it is raining. He has a rather rectangular-shaped face and a shaved beard. He wears a black hat with an embalmed goat on it and a robe similar to the ones worn by the other cultists, but over his hood he sports a hat shaped like a ram. He has a red, thin sash tied around his waist, with the knot on the front, and he wears a necklace made of light-green beads and what look like some animal's fangs.

Personality

He is apparently very attached to his people, as he is willing to save them by any means necessary, even summoning Satan himself. He has a darker side, however, as he was willing to make a show of the longarms for money.

Abilities And Powers

Pekkori is the village mayor of Harahettania, and thus has power over the inhabitants of the kingdom. He was seen using a spear alongside the other cultists when fighting the Longarms raiders.

History

Summit War Saga

Straw Hat Separation Adventure Harahettania

Pekkori and the people of Harahettania had long been raided by longarm bandits led by Sancrin, so they eventually attempted to get revenge by summoning Satan through black magic. Coincidentally, Brook happened to land in the middle of their magic circle during one of their rituals, causing Pekkori to think he had successfully summoned the Devil. When a young woman was kidnapped by the longarms, he and the rest of the villagers did nothing. Later, he tried to convince Brook to fight the longarms while the latter composed a song. Brook's song ended up rousing the villagers' fighting spirit and causing them to fight back against the longarms for the first time. They successfully defeated and captured the bandits, after which Pekkori thanked Brook for his help. Pekkori then considered putting the longarms on display as circus show to make money, but Brook convinced him to let them go. Unfortunately, the longarms did not keep their promise to leave peacefully and kidnapped Brook instead, which prompted Pekkori and the villagers to attempt summoning another demon to help Brook.

Anime And Manga Differences

Pekkori is only named in the anime, where he takes part in more scenes than the ones seen in the manga.

Trivia

His name is likely derived from pekori (ぺこり?), the Japanese word which refers to the action of quickly bowing or lowering one's head, which he and his followers do when Brook arrived. Despite introducing himself as "Pekkori" in Episode 421, he is only credited as "Elder" (長老, Chōrō?) in all episodes he appears in. Additionally, the official website ONE PIECE.com only calls him by the title "Village Mayor" (村長, Sanchō?).
