Introduction

Foosha Village (literally meaning “Windmill Village”) is a little port village that is located on Dawn Island and is part of Goa Kingdom. It is the first setting of the Romance Dawn Arc, and is where the story of One Piece starts from. Layout And Locations

Foosha Village resembles a typical rural community, with rustic wooden houses, docks and a few windmills. It is located to the east of the Goa Kingdom capital. A prominent feature of this sleepy village is Mt. Colubo in the background. Several notable mountain bandits live in or around the mountain near the village, causing the occasional chaos to the villagers or assisting them as needed. The town appears to be rather unknown, thus the townsfolk are thrilled and proud that their town might be known for producing an infamous pirate. They are led by mayor Woop Slap who usually is against most ideas presented by the other townsfolk on pirates. The town also has a local Sea King called Lord of the Coast. However, it is not as big as some of the sea monsters in the rest of the world and there is no indications it is as big of a problem as others of his kind may create. This monster is the reason why Shanks lost his left arm by saving Luffy.

Partys Bar (パーティーズバー, Pātīzu Bā?) is a bar where Makino works here as the bartender. In the anime, it is named “Patys Bar”, but this was later fixed in Episode of Luffy. It is, in a way, where the story first takes place. It was where Shanks partied with his crew, and where the incident between Shanks and Higuma took place. It was also where Luffy ate the Gomu Gomu no Mi and discovered its powers.

Uo

UO is a fish store owned by Gyoru. Luffy used to buy fish from here.

Buffalo Meat

Buffalo Meat is a butcher shop that is located near Partys Bar. It appears on the alternate cover of Volume 104.

History

Past

Monkey D. Luffy was born and raised in Foosha Village. It is also where Luffy met Shanks. Three and a half years ago, Warlord of the Sea Bartholomew Kuma sailed near Foosha Village and received a mission from the World Government to destroy a pirate crew that had pillaged a nearby merchant ship.

East Blue Saga

Romance Dawn Arc

Luffy began his own journey as a pirate and defeated the Lord of the Coast on his way out.

Loguetown Arc

When Luffy’s bounty poster reached the village, the villagers were more than happy that Luffy was fulfilling his dream though the Mayor, Woop Slap, who had always been against Luffy becoming a pirate, thought it was more destiny than a dream.

Water 7 Saga

Post-enies Lobby Arc

The villagers once again rejoiced at Luffy’s growing infamy. Woop Slap was again annoyed by the raucous partying. Makino liked Luffy’s crew, especially his “cute pet”. Woop Slap was annoyed that an enemy of the World Government had come from Foosha, and wondered what Garp was doing about it.

Summit War Saga

Post-war Arc

After the Summit War of Marineford, Vice Admiral Monkey D. Garp returned, and though he had largely retired…

After the Summit War of Marineford, Vice Admiral Monkey D. Garp returned, and though he had largely retired since the war, he took a station to protect the village and the island.

Fish-man Island Saga

From The Decks Of The World

The villagers celebrated Luffy’s public return, while Mayor Woop Slap sulked and Makino cradled her crying baby.

Whole Cake Island Saga

From The Decks Of The World The 500000000 Man Arc

They village celebrated Luffy’s 500 million bounty with the Dadan Family.

Final Saga

Egghead Arc

The villagers and the Dadan Family received news about Luffy’s actions on Egghead and Garp’s supposed disappearance on Hachinosu. Shortly after, the sea level around the village rose, causing many of the villagers present to feel confused. When Vegapunk’s global broadcast began, many of the villagers were only able to hear the audio as they did not have a Visual Den Den Mushi.

Translation And Dub Issues

While “Foosha” is meant to reference the village’s many windmills (風車, Fūsha?), some early English translations, including the 4Kids anime, mistook it for Fuchsia (possibly caused in part by the contemporaneous Pokémon dub, where color-based town names were the norm). However, the VIZ manga has correctly translated it as Windmill Village from Chapter 1 on. Curiously, the English localization of the Romance Dawn video game romanizes it as Fisher Village.

Trivia

  • According to Rurubu One Piece, Foosha Village was inspired by villages in England. It shares this distinction with Syrup Village and Ohara.
