Layout And Locations
Syrup Village is a quiet community nestled amid rolling grasslands, dirt trails, hills, and forests. Its residents—including Usopp—live in modest homes, their simplicity contrasted by Kaya’s grand and elegant mansion, which stands out among them on the top of a hill. There are two slopes leading from the island’s shoreline to the village, one located to the north and the other to the south. These passages are the only way to reach Syrup Village from the beach, as the rest of the coastline is marked by steep, impassable cliffs. Both passages are approximately three minutes away from each other by running.
Meshi
Meshi is the name of the restaurant in which Luffy, Zoro and Nami came to know Usopp more closely. Luffy, in particular, grew fond of the place and its food. Meshi means “food” or “meal” in Japanese, a simple yet meaningful name for the establishment.

Kaya’s Mansion is the house in which Kaya and her servant, Merry lives. It used to belong to Kaya’s father, but since her parents died, she inherited the whole mansion and fortune. The estate is fenced and protected by the Mansion’s Guards, though they may neglect their duties for lunch breaks. Usopp usually visited Kaya by sneaking in, until he left to become a true pirate. Kuro intended to take it by killing Kaya and manipulating her to sign a will for him to inherit it, but he was defeated by Luffy, and thrown off the island. During the Black Cat Pirates’ attempt to attack Syrup Village, most of the mansion’s employees went on vacation, leaving only Kuro and Merry, thus most of them unaware of the reason regarding the former’s sudden departure, nor being able to help the latter from Kuro’s bloodthirsty attack. A mansion that looked similar also exists in Little East Blue.
Anime And Manga Differences
While Kaya’s room was seen on the ground floor in the manga it was on the second floor in the anime.
Trivia
- According to Rurubu One Piece, Syrup Village was inspired by villages in rural England. It shares this distinction with Foosha Village and Ohara.
- Before the timeskip, the people of the Syrup Village (besides Kaya and the former Usopp Pirates) did not believe that it was Usopp on the Sogeking bounty poster, due to it not actually depicting him.
- The village’s name, apart from referencing the food item, may be a subtle pun meant to contrast with Usopp’s: both end with the -pu (ップ?) katakana, and while Uso (ウソ?) references the Japanese term for “lie” (嘘?), Shiro (シロ?) is homophonous with the first character in the term for “honest” (素直?).
