Introduction

She was also the daughter of a pureblooded and ancient influential lineage, akin to nobility. She passed away 62 years ago of an unknown illness. Estrid was the mother of Loki, as well as the former arranged wife to king Harald, making her Elbaph's latest queen. She was also the daughter of a pureblooded and ancient influential lineage, akin to nobility. She passed away 62 years ago of an unknown illness.

Appearance

Estrid was a beautiful, slim giant woman of greater height, due to having ancient giant blood. She had light hair, stylized into a ponytail. She usually wore an open v-neck shirt, exposing her cleavage and midriff, as well as a loose sarong, showing off her legs, which had fishnets on them. She also wore a light coat over her shoulders, similar to a cape. Just after giving birth to Loki, she wore a simple light gown, but quickly discarded it in favor of a floral skirt and shirt after deciding to leave the castle.

Personality

The complete opposite to Harald's previous love Ida, and a dark reflection of Harald's past, Estrid was a haughty woman who cared about status, luxury and looks above all else. She was very greedy and demanding; as soon as she moved into the castle, she had all treasures relocated into her room, and even tried to take them with her when she attempted to leave. She wanted nothing but the best, mainly for herself, ordering their subordinates to serve them food on a silver platter, while callously telling Harald to forget about his previous wife and firstborn son. She even had no love for her own biological son, Loki, based on his physical appearance, refusing to give the newborn infant even acknowledgement of their mother-son relationship, while heartlessly and furiously trying to kill him immediately. She would further harass her own son with defamatory claims, ensuring that Loki's reputation would be tarnished despite the boy having done nothing wrong at that point. Giving birth to Loki apparently traumatized her, as she claimed she never wanted to bear a child ever again. She was also incredibly superstitious. Playing into her status as a student of the "earth-wind art", she immediately started ordering servants to shut off the castle to prevent Harald's "spirit" from "leaking out", spoke of energies misaligning east, and had a mirror disposed of for being positioned in a "lethal" five star configuration. She adamantly believed in prophecies and fortune, calling her own son "cursed" for appearing strange and ordered him killed based on the prophecy that he would kill Harald one day.

Relationships

Family

Harald

Estrid was Harald's arranged wife. She put on a facade of a caring and devoted fiancée upon first meeting him, and believed that she was fated to love him for the rest of their lives. At the same time, she callously insulted Harald's beloved previous wife, Ida, and firstborn son, Hajrudin, which did not sit well with the King. However, she was not above lying to him about Loki, ordering the castle staff to do so since the child was considered "unacceptable" in her eyes. As a result of Loki's strange appearance, she abandoned her previous mask of love for Harald and attempted to return to her village with all of his riches.

Loki

Loki is Estrid's son. Despite that, from the first time she laid eyes on him, she wished he wasn't. Due to his strong ancient giant blood, his features were considered horrifying to her, and she immediately reacted by fleeing upon first seeing him. She attempted to remorselessly kill him by throwing him down to Elbaph's Underworld, and was struck ill after he managed to climb back up. She attempted to cover up his birth by saying he was stillborn, and when that didn't work, she had him labeled as "cursed", causing a persisting belief that he was evil all around Elbaph.

Elbaph Giants

Estrid was respected by the elders of Elbaph for her noble lineage, and they arranged her to marry Harald to keep the royal bloodline "pure". However, once she became queen, the royal servants found her to be a very unpleasant person, as almost immediately after entering the castle, she started to give ridiculous orders based on superstitions and hedonism. When Loki was born, Estrid's revolt of the child was met with shock and disapproval of the nursemaids, when they refused to kill Loki or cover up his birth as Estrid tried to order them to, and even tried to stop her from throwing Loki out of the castle. When she became bedridden and continued to rant about Loki being an accursed existence that must be disposed of, the guards regarded her ranting as madness.

Abilities And Powers

As a giant with ancient giant blood, Estrid had immense physical strength, accompanied by a larger-than-standard build. Due to her family lineage, she was considered a noble by Elbaph standards. Becoming the queen granted her the associated authority and resources. She was a self-proclaimed student of "Earth-Wind Arts" (地風術, Chifūjutsu?, VIZ: "Geomancy"). This has only been shown to entail strange, superstitious rituals and practices.

History

Biography

Over 70 years ago, Estrid became Harald's arranged wife. Of ancient giant blood, as well as a noble family, she lovingly introduced herself to her new husband, while at the same time insulting his son Hajrudin and former wife Ida. Harald was left in disbelief as she began to issue orders to the staff, attempting to bring "good fortune" to the castle through strange ideals about "energies" misaligning. Afterward, she introduced Harald to Asla, an eight-legged horse apparently destined to bring good fortune as a gift from her family. With her last and most audacious order for the day, she had all of the castle's riches held within her room, and made it so she and Harald would only eat off of silver platters from that day on. 63 years ago, she gave birth to Loki but was so horrified by his appearance that she leapt away from him, unable to believe that Loki was hers. She ordered the nursemaids to inform the kingdom that the baby was a stillborn. She then picked up Loki and without a second thought, threw him from the castle, down into Elbaph's Underworld. Not long after, she began to pack her things (including all of the treasure), intent on returning back to her home village. Before she could leave, she was again horrified to learn that Loki had managed to somehow climb all the way back up. After falling ill and being bedridden, she ordered a guard to dispose of Loki for good, citing the prophecy that he would be the one to end up killing Harald. A year later, she passed away due to the same unknown illness.

Legacy

Her harsh words about her son would plague him for the rest of his life. Any time something bad happened on Elbaph, the simplest explanation was that it occurred because of Loki's "curse".

Trivia

Estrid shares her name with a real-life Swedish queen of the Viking Age: Estrid of the Obotrites, to whom she shares some similarities according to some historical records, including a luxurious personality and harshness towards her servants. Notably, her husband, Olof Skötkonung also had a mistress that he treated equally, in spite of Estrid being the only one recognized as royalty proper. Estrid's proclaimed "Earth-Wind Arts" is very similar to the Chinese concept of feng shui (風水, fūsui?, literally meaning "Wind-Water"), the belief that the placements of various objects within one's surroundings can affect their fortunes. Estrid insisted on moving everything around within Aurust Castle to improve the fortune of the royal family, though the guards suspected that it was all an excuse for her to live in luxury.
