Introduction

Tequila Wolf is a massive stone bridge in the East Blue, which has been under construction for centuries. It first appeared when Nico Robin was sent there by Bartholomew Kuma during the events of Sabaody Archipelago. Both Robin and the residents of Tequila Wolf were later rescued from their enslavement by the Revolutionary Army. Tequila Wolf is one of four monumental mega-structures that have been under construction using slave labor over the course of 700 years. The others include Vodka Wolf (ウォッカウルフ, Wokka Urufu?), Rum Wolf (ラムウルフ, Ramu Urufu?), and Bourbon Wolf (バーボンウルフ, Bābon Urufu?).

History

Past

The construction of the Tequila Wolf bridge has been an immense, ongoing project for the past 700 years, driven by the demands of the World Nobles. This colossal task is being carried out by slaves—criminals or individuals from countries that refuse to ally with the World Government. The building of the bridge has slowly progressed over the centuries, and civilization has had to progress alongside it, with earlier settlements crumbling over time and new ones founded as the bridge grows in length. Consequently, many ruins of former work camps lie scattered along the bridge, remnants of the grueling labor that has taken place over generations. The exact purpose of this seemingly insurmountable undertaking is still shrouded in mystery, though it was assumed that the goal is probably to connect various islands. Four years before the current storyline, Bartholomew Kuma briefly travelled to Tequila Wolf in search of a cure for his daughter's disease.

Summit War Saga

Postwar Arc

During the events of Sabaody Archipelago, Bartholomew Kuma sent Nico Robin to Tequila Wolf. She was forcibly put to work on the bridge's construction, until the Revolutionary Army launched an assault and freed Robin and the other enslaved workers.

Final Saga

Egghead Arc

By the time of the Egghead Incident, construction had restarted, once again relying on the use of slave labor. In a meeting of the Revolutionary Army, Emporio Ivankov drew a significant connection between the ongoing construction of Tequila Wolf and other elevated mega-structures around the world and Vegapunk's alarming news regarding the rising sea levels.

Trivia

  • During the construction of the Burma Railway in World War II, over 116,000 laborers and allied prisoners died while building the railway with the most lives being lost at the "Hellfire Pass" near the Kwai bridge. The bridge is famous for allegedly being haunted by the deceased construction workers, leaving it as the center of attention for the numerous deaths. As a side note, both bridges are built by slave and prison labor, and both saw a heavy loss of life from their construction. Just as there are many ruins from the camps along the Tequila Wolf bridge, the Burma Railway itself has many sections that have been left to fall into ruin and be reclaimed by the nearby jungle growth.
  • The word "tequila" is likely a reference to the distilled beverage of the same name. It shares this naming scheme with the other mega-structures that are similar to it: vodka, rum and bourbon whiskey.
  • In Chapter 967, the Roger Pirates were shown sailing near a giant bridge, which was initially assumed to be Tequila Wolf as the existence of the other "Wolf" bridges had not been revealed at that point. However, Oda later confirmed in SBS Volume 111 that the bridge was not Tequila Wolf, although he refused to say which of the other bridges it was. In the anime, the bridge had been identified specifically as Tequila Wolf.
